Nuclear Weapons Excluded from Iran’s Defense Strategy: Security Official

Rio de Janeiro: Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), Ali-Akbar Ahmadian, emphasized that nuclear weapons are not part of Iran's defense strategy while affirming the nation's right to pursue peaceful atomic energy.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Ahmadian made these statements during a BRICS security officials meeting held in Rio de Janeiro. He highlighted Iran's commitment to peaceful nuclear activities and criticized the notion of 'peace through power' and 'coercive diplomacy' in the context of the Palestinian issue. Ahmadian advocated for peace rooted in justice and the acknowledgment of legitimate rights.

He further addressed the threats posed by certain countries against BRICS and its member states, interpreting these threats as signs of concern over BRICS' potential to form a robust economic, political, and cultural alliance. Ahmadian reiterated Iran's stance on its nuclear policy, referencing international reports that support Iran's claims regarding its nuclear intentions.

Proposing initiatives to strengthen BRICS, the Iranian official suggested the introduction of a BRICS digital currency, a secure banking messenger for intra-group trade, and a supply chain security committee. He also advocated for transportation insurance, the creation of an anti-sanctions corridor, and a support fund to mitigate the impact of foreign sanctions.
