Tehran: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) strongly condemned the Republic of Nauru's decision to open its embassy in occupied Jerusalem al-Quds: The OIC secretariat criticized the move as inconsistent with the international position on the city's legal and historical status. According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the OIC emphasized that al-Quds is an integral part of the Palestinian territory occupied in 1967. The organization declared that Nauru's action is null and illegal under international law and relevant UN resolutions, particularly Security Council Resolutions 476 and 478 of 1980. The OIC renewed its call on Nauru and other countries that have moved their embassies to occupied al-Quds or announced similar intentions, urging them to reverse their decisions. The organization appealed for contributions to international efforts toward peace based on the two-state solution.
