OIC Condemns US President’s Remarks on Gaza

Jeddah: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has issued a statement condemning recent remarks by US President Donald Trump regarding the displacement of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip. The OIC criticized Trump's expressed support for Israeli sovereignty over Palestinian territories and his decision to halt funding for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the OIC believes that these statements perpetuate occupation and colonial settlement, violating international law and United Nations resolutions, including Security Council Resolution No. 2334. The organization asserts that Trump's comments jeopardize peace prospects and threaten regional stability.

The OIC emphasized its rejection of efforts to alter the geographical, demographic, or legal status of occupied Palestinian territories. It reaffirmed the Gaza Strip as part of the occupied State of Palestine and called for efforts to secure a ceasefire, withdraw Israeli occupation forces, support Palestinian resilience, and facilitate the return of displaced persons. The OIC also urged for economic recovery in Gaza and accountability for crimes against Palestinians.

Furthermore, the OIC reiterated its support for UNRWA, highlighting its essential humanitarian role and resisting attempts to undermine its mandate. The organization views UNRWA as crucial for supporting Palestinian refugees and maintaining regional stability.

The OIC expressed solidarity with the Palestinian people, backing their struggle through the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) for self-determination and statehood based on pre-1967 borders, including Gaza, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem. The organization remains committed to international efforts for a comprehensive peace and a two-state solution.

During a news conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump suggested transforming Gaza into a hub for international residents after displacing Palestinians. He proposed US management of Gaza, envisioning it as the "Riviera of the Middle East" and insisted that Palestinians should leave the area due to a lack of alternatives.
