Tehran:Islamabad Chief of Army Staff of Pakistan, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, has departed for Tehran to engage with high-ranking Iranian officials. This marks his fifth official visit to Iran since Pakistan started its mediation efforts earlier this year to address the US-Israeli-imposed conflict on Iran.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the source confirmed that Munir left Islamabad moments ago. His visit underscores the continued high-level consultations between Pakistan and Iran on mutual interests.
During his previous visit in late August, Munir held meetings with several key Iranian figures, including President Masoud Pezeshkian, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Mohsen Rezaei, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, and Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni.
On a related note, last Sunday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi engaged in a telephone conversation with his Pakistani counterpart, Mohammad Ishaq Dar, discussing bilateral issues and regional developments, focusing on diplomatic efforts for de-escalation and stability in West Asia.
A spokesperson for the Pakistan army reiterated on Monday the importance of maintaining communication channels with regional actors, including Iran. The spokesperson stressed that military escalation in West Asia benefits no one, emphasizing that diplomacy and negotiations are the paths to resolve tensions.
