The National Center for Palm and Dates and the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture have made a significant breakthrough in sustainable agriculture, launching the region's first biochar, created by ingeniously recycling palm waste in Saudi Arabia. Biochar, a carbon-rich porous material, is beneficial for soil and environmentally sustainable. It improves soil structure and water retention, and increases nutrient availability. It can also help lower greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate the effects of climate change. By utilizing biochar, farmers can expect a 30% reduction in water consumption, faster plant growth and higher yields. This innovative product helps the ministry deliver on its commitment to promote a circular economy and support the agricultural sector through sustainable practices. With over 36 million palm trees distributed in all its regions, the Kingdom's abundance of palm waste is a valuable source for producing biochar, which not only contributes to protecting the environment, but also presents new economic opportunities to investors and entrepreneurs.
