Parliament Expresses Distrust in IAEA

Tehran: The National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Iranian Parliament has released a statement expressing its distrust in the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The commission criticized the IAEA’s Director-General, Rafael Grossi, accusing him of complicity with Israel and failing to condemn attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the statement from Iranian lawmakers highlights dissatisfaction with Grossi’s silence on attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities. They argue that Grossi, seen as aligned with U.S. and Israeli interests, neglected his duty to speak out against these actions, thus failing to uphold his legal responsibilities.

The Iranian Parliament has called on its Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran to adhere strictly to a law that mandates the suspension of cooperation with the IAEA. This move follows a bill approved in June 2025, which obligates the Iranian administration to halt cooperation with the IAEA in response to violations of Iran’s national sovereignty and integrity.

The bill outlines conditions for suspending cooperation, such as ensuring respect for Iran’s sovereignty and the security of its nuclear facilities, as well as affirming Iran’s rights under the Non-Proliferation Treaty, particularly regarding uranium enrichment. These measures are to remain in place until the specified conditions, determined by Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, are met.

The decision to suspend cooperation came after U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear sites, actions deemed in violation of international law, including the United Nations Charter.
