Parliament Speaker Advocates Stronger Economic and Cultural Ties Among Islamic Nations

Tehran: Parliament Speaker Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf has announced that the recent 19th Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) conference has opened new avenues to strengthen economic and cultural connections among Islamic countries. Qalibaf made this statement upon his return at Mehrabad International Airport, emphasizing the significance of both the conference and bilateral meetings in enhancing these relations.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the PUIC conference included various committees focused on Palestine, economy, human rights, and women's affairs, all of which were active during the event. The conference provided a crucial platform for both bilateral and multilateral discussions among the delegations present.

Qalibaf pointed out the unified stance of Islamic states against the Israeli regime's violations, with the PUIC demonstrating a firm opposition to the regime's actions. These remarks were made against the backdrop of the U.S. president's visit to the Persian Gulf states, a trip perceived as an attempt to create discord among Islamic nations, destabilize the region, and encourage arms sales.

Highlighting the role of Indonesia in international platforms, Qalibaf noted Indonesia's involvement in BRICS, the D-8, and the Non-Aligned Movement as pivotal in Southeast Asia. During the PUIC conference, Qalibaf conducted seven bilateral meetings with counterparts from Indonesia, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Burkina Faso, and Malaysia.
