Tehran: Deputy Chief of the Iranian Army for Coordination Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari has emphasized that the Persian Gulf ‘has been, is, and will remain’ unchanged in the future. Admiral Sayyari highlighted the strategic significance of the sea as a source of wealth and power during an international seminar on Tuesday, pointing out Iran’s unique geographical advantages and the need to fully leverage these for development and progress.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, members of Iran’s Parliament on Sunday issued a statement reaffirming the nation’s historical and geopolitical claims over the Persian Gulf. This statement was in response to concerns that U.S. President Donald Trump might misname the Persian Gulf during his visit to Saudi Arabia. Ahmad Naderi, a member of the parliamentary presiding board, read the statement, asserting Iran’s steadfast position on the issue.
The parliamentary statement addressed Mr. Trump directly, declaring, ‘Mr. Trump, the Persian Gulf and its geopolitics are God-given.’ It further emphasized that the name ‘Persian Gulf’ is a historical fact and not a result of invasion or exploitation.
In earlier comments, Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi criticized efforts to politically rename the Persian Gulf, interpreting such actions as hostile towards Iran and its population. He categorically rejected these attempts, reinforcing Iran’s dedication to preserving the historically recognized name.
