Berlin: A group of Iranians residing in Germany has launched an electronic petition protesting Berlin's decision to close Iranian consulates across the country. The move, deemed inhumane by the petitioners, has sparked concern among the Iranian community in Germany. According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the petition, which has been made available on the website of Change Institute, expresses the collective disapproval of Iranians living in Germany, who are not affiliated with any political or organizational group. The petitioners argue that the German federal government's recent decision to shut down the consulates general of Iran in cities like Frankfurt, Hamburg, and Munich will significantly impact the daily lives and communication of the over 400,000 citizens of Iranian descent or Iranians living in Germany. The signatories of the petition describe the closure of these consulates as a form of collective punishment that unfairly targets ordinary citizens. They emphasize that these individuals should not bear the brunt of political decisions or tensions between governments. The closure, they argue, will disrupt essential services and communication channels for the Iranian community in Germany, affecting their ability to manage personal and professional affairs effectively.
