New york: President Masoud Pezeshkian has said that the Islamic Republic of Iran has consistently stated that it does not seek to develop nuclear weapons, adding that those who violated their commitments and withdrew from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) bear responsibility for the current situation. Pezeshkian was speaking at a meeting with Ant³nio Costa, the president of the European Council, on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the Iranian president stated that Tehran is actively working to strengthen its relations with countries worldwide, including those in Europe, based on mutual interests and respect. He emphasized that Iran does not seek war or conflict, noting, ‘The Islamic Republic of Iran seeks constructive and friendly relations. For this purpose, we are prepared for dialogue and understanding to address problems, obstacles, and concerns to prevent the escalation of differences.’

The Islamic Republic of Iran has consistently stated that it does not seek to develop nuclear weapons, Pezeshkian said, adding that Tehran is ready to cooperate in promoting transparency in this matter to demonstrate that the propaganda campaigns against it are false.

For his part, Costa said that the European Council is interested in strengthening ties with Iran, adding, ‘We must resolve problems through dialogue and understanding.’
