Tehran: Parliament Speaker Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf has accused enemies of attempting to create division among Iranians by resorting to fake news and disinformation. Qalibaf’s remarks were made during a parliamentary session, where he specifically pointed to U.S. President Donald Trump as a key figure in efforts to intimidate the Iranian people.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Qalibaf questioned the motivation behind the U.S. initiating a war against Iran amid ongoing negotiations. He accused Trump of engaging in psychological warfare, aiming to instill fear and despair among Iranians and disrupt the calculations of the country’s officials. Qalibaf characterized Trump’s statements as either attempts to attract attention or part of a strategy to undermine Iran.
Qalibaf emphasized that despite these tactics, Iranians would remain united against their enemies and thwart their plots. He highlighted the ‘historic turnout’ at the funeral of 60 victims of the recent conflict in Tehran as evidence of this unity.
The victims were among more than 600 individuals killed during a 12-day U.S.-Israeli war of aggression that began on June 13. The conflict was initiated by Israel just days before scheduled talks between Iran and the United States regarding Iran’s peaceful nuclear program. The U.S. escalated the situation on June 22 by bombing three Iranian nuclear sites: Fordow, Isfahan, and Natanz.
In response, the Iranian Armed Forces launched powerful strikes on key areas across Israeli-occupied territories, inflicting significant damage. The hostilities concluded with a ceasefire announcement on June 24.
