The Sustainable Agricultural Rural Development Program (Reef Saudi) has implemented a project to operate and maintain mobile bee clinics. These clinics offer diagnostic services for diseases and pests to beekeepers at their locations. The primary objective is to preserve the bee population in the Kingdom and protect it from various diseases. Secretary General of Reef Saudi Ghassan Bakri said that the program has completed the maintenance, operation, and supply of 11 clinics in three regions of the Kingdom: Makkah, Madinah, and Jazan, at a cost of over SAR 5.5 million. Within the project, 4,200 samples were examined. He also highlighted that this project educated beekeepers about various bee diseases and their causes, methods of collecting samples, and treatment techniques. The project aims to establish a comprehensive database of bee diseases and pests identified during survey campaigns. This database will provide details about the types of diseases, their locations, and disease rates at each site, and wi ll be shared with the relevant departments on a regular basis. The honey sector is a key focus of Reef Saudi, which aims to improve food security and increase honey production.
