Moscow: Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has reiterated his country's support for the formation of a Palestinian State in order to achieve enduring peace and stability across the West Asia region. In an interview with the TASS news agency on Sunday, Lavrov said that Russia continues to advocate a just settlement of the Middle East conflict, stressing that the main issue here is to "remedy the historical injustice and provide for establishing a viable Palestinian State."

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Lavrov emphasized that regardless of the developments in and around Gaza, Russia remains committed to a fair resolution of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict based on the universally recognized legal framework. The top Russian diplomat warned that a lasting peace for Palestinians and Jews, and for all other nations in West Asia, is difficult to imagine "without solving this issue," adding that "the instability of what is happening on the ground is exacerbated by the uncertainty regarding further steps in implementing peace agreements."

Russia has long emphasized a long-term resolution to the conflict by implementing UN resolutions on Palestinian statehood.
