The Saudi Space Agency (SSA) concluded its diverse engagements during World Space Week 2024, an annual celebration held from October 4 to 10, with a focus this year on the theme "Space and Climate Change." World Space Week 2024 shed light on the significance of space technologies in comprehending and tackling the global challenge of climate change. The annual celebrations coincide with the anniversary of the launch of the first artificial satellite and the signing of the Outer Space Treaty, which laid down principles for the peaceful use of outer space. The SSA took part in the "NASA International Space Apps Challenge," an annual hackathon aimed at fostering innovation, empowering entrepreneurs, and nurturing human capabilities through the creation of inventive solutions using open data from the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The hackathon witnessed widespread participation from creators and innovators who showcased technological solutions to address global challenges. Conclud ing its involvement in World Space Week, the SSA hosted a live broadcast session featuring astronaut Ali Alqarni, who discussed the pivotal role of the space sector in relation to climate change. Alqarni elaborated on how space technologies bolster efforts to combat climate change. The SSA's participation in this yearly celebration contributes to elevating Saudi Arabia's status as a global space leader, leveraging space technologies to address environmental challenges and attain sustainable development goals.
