The Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) has introduced a set of Guiding Principles for Addressing Deepfake Operations Using Artificial Intelligence Tools for public consultation. These principles aim to raise awareness, promote responsible use of deep fake technologies, and outline best practices for harnessing their potential while mitigating risks. The announcement was made during the third edition of the Global AI Summit (GAIN Summit) in Riyadh, attended by SDAIA Chairman Dr. Abdullah bin Sharaf Al-Ghamdi, Vice President Sami bin Abdullah Muqeem, Director of the National Information Center Dr. Essam bin Abdullah Al-Waqeet, and Head of the National Data Management Office at SDAIA Al-Rabdi bin Fahd Al-Rabdi. In his remarks, Al-Rabdi highlighted the challenges posed by deepfake technologies, including the spread of misinformation, privacy violations, and their exploitation in fraud and identity theft. He stressed the importance of a balanced approach to these challenges, fostering inno vation while upholding ethical standards and maintaining public trust. Al-Rabdi also referenced SDAIA's 2022 launch of the AI Ethics Principles during the second Global AI Summit and announced the release of the new Deepfake Guidelines document, which is now open for public feedback. He encouraged stakeholders to review and contribute to the document to maximize the benefits of deepfake technologies while protecting society from potential harm. The new guidelines seek to empower stakeholders to leverage the positive potential of deepfake technologies while identifying and mitigating risks. They also underscore the Kingdom's commitment to ensuring AI technologies are developed and used ethically, contributing to a safe digital future. The public consultation process includes an opinion poll to gauge the impact of the principles on adopting AI ethics. This initiative aligns with SDAIA's broader efforts to regulate AI since its inception, supporting research, development, and innovation while reflecting the K ingdom's commitment to responsible AI governance.
