The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) lens has captured a flock of migratory birds passing through the Northern Borders Region during the bird migration season. With its balanced environment and diverse terrain, the region is one of the most vital migration routes for birds annually, a natural haven for over 300 bird species. Nasser Al-Majlad, the President of the Aman Environmental Association in the Northern Borders Region, told SPA that migratory birds play a vital environmental and cultural role, providing invaluable ecological services that benefit natural ecosystems and human communities. He explained that they help control pest populations by feeding on certain insects, which prevents disease spreading and reduces the need for chemical pesticides in agriculture. Al-Majlad also highlighted their impact on soil aeration, which keeps soil healthy and sound, while preserving system balance and plant propagation. Birds, like the impressive demoiselle crane, also disperse seeds of some plants, helping in their cul tivation near water marshes. Al-Majlad called for protecting migratory birds from illegal hunting and avoiding tampering with the ecosystem. Given the significant role played by these birds, the National Center for Wildlife (NCW) has established strict laws to safeguard them from unlawful hunting and diligently shielded them from various dangers. The association has also launched powerful environmental campaigns to promote awareness about the criticality of environmental conservation across all its aspects. These campaigns aim to empower the public with the knowledge and tools to protect our natural world.
