Tehran: Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has strongly condemned the Australian government's action of blacklisting the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC), asserting that the move will fail to diminish the IRGC's influence. The IRGC is an institution deeply rooted in the Iranian populace and has played a pivotal role in combating terrorism in West Asia, Ghalibaf affirmed during a parliamentary session.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Ghalibaf criticized the Australian government's decision, describing the accusations as baseless and ineffective in challenging the IRGC's standing as a formidable Iranian and Islamic force. He suggested that Australia's actions might be an attempt to placate the Israeli regime and distract from the atrocities occurring in Gaza. Ghalibaf warned that such actions would leave a lasting stain on Australia's reputation among regional and Muslim nations.

On November 27, 2025, the Australian government officially designated the IRGC as a state sponsor of terrorism. This move followed an earlier announcement on August 26, wherein Australia expelled Iran's ambassador, alleging Tehran's involvement in orchestrating antisemitic incidents in Sydney and Melbourne the previous year-claims that Iran has firmly denied. In response, Australia also recalled its ambassador from Tehran.

Iran's Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, has also weighed in, condemning Australia's expulsion of the Iranian ambassador over the alleged antisemitic attacks. He criticized Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, labeling him a weak leader who seeks to appease Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
