Taiwan Announces NT$10,000 Cash Handout Registration Details

Taipei: The Executive Yuan has revealed that registration for a one-time universal NT$10,000 (US$321) cash handout aimed at assisting residents in Taiwan in coping with Trump-era tariffs and inflation will commence on Nov. 5, with the earliest payouts available by Nov. 12.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, eligibility for this cash handout extends to registered Taiwanese nationals, including newborns born in Taiwan before April 30, 2026, who possess a birth certificate. Non-registered nationals with residence permits, foreign permanent residents, and foreign spouses of Taiwanese citizens with residence permits are also eligible. In cases where eligible individuals have passed away between the announcement and April 30, 2026, surviving family members can collect the payment on their behalf at a post office.

The registration process, starting at 8 a.m. on Nov. 5, will be conducted on a dedicated website. It will be organized in stages based on the last digit of the applicant's National ID or Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) number. Payments will be deposited into the applicant's bank account once available. Specifically, those whose numbers end in 0 or 1 can register on Nov. 5, followed by 2 or 3 on Nov. 6, 4 or 5 on Nov. 7, 6 or 7 on Nov. 8, and 8 or 9 on Nov. 9. From Nov. 10 to April 30, 2026, registration will be open regardless of ID or ARC number endings, with options to modify and verify information starting Nov. 13.

To complete the registration, applicants must provide their National Health Insurance (NHI) card number, a National ID or residence permit number, and a bank account number. For children aged 12 and under, a parent or legal guardian can register on their behalf using their own ID number and bank account, alongside the child's NHI card number.

Alternatively, individuals can withdraw cash at ATMs displaying the "universal cash handout" sticker, using an ATM card, a National ID or ARC number, and an NHI card number. Cash pickup is also available at post offices, either personally or on behalf of others, with the necessary identification documents. For those covered by government-run pension or social welfare allowance programs, the payment will be automatically deposited into their bank accounts.

Residents in remote areas, specifically Hualien County's Wanrong Township, Taitung County's Jinfeng Township, and Pingtung County's Shizi Township, can register at local police stations from Friday to Tuesday.

The cash handout will be deposited for registered accounts and automatic deposits starting Nov. 12. ATM cash withdrawals will begin on Nov. 17, and post office withdrawals will be available from Nov. 24. The final date to receive payments through these methods is April 30, 2026. However, parents of infants born in April 2026 will have until May 22 to collect their payment at a post office, allowing time for birth certificate preparation. In remote areas, distributions will occur from Nov. 12 to Nov. 25 at local police stations.
