Tanker Strikes Naval Mine in Strait of Hormuz, IRGC Navy Reports

Accra:Strait of Hormuz A tanker violating regulations in the Strait of Hormuz hit a naval mine, leading to an explosion and fire in its engine room, According to Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the IRGC Navy's public relations office stated that the tanker was attempting to leave the strait after disabling all its positioning and navigation systems at its point of departure. The vessel was navigating through an unauthorized southern route, disregarding regulations for transit through the strait.

The IRGC Navy issued a warning that vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf would encounter a strong response if they deactivate their navigation and identification systems.

In July, Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz to all traffic after the United States conducted air raids on Iran and imposed a naval blockade, which violated the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding. This follows two conflicts initiated by the US and Israel against Iran in June 2025 and February 2026, with both ending after Iran's retaliatory actions led to ceasefires.
