Tehran: Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has emphasized that security, economic, and transit cooperation between Tehran and Baghdad will enhance security and development in the region.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, on Friday, Ghalibaf met with his Iraqi counterpart, Haibat al-Halbousi, who traveled to Tehran to attend the funeral of the martyred Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei. Ghalibaf welcomed the Iraqi delegation for attending the funeral ceremony and congratulated al-Halbousi on his appointment as Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament. He expressed his appreciation for their presence during this time of mourning for the Iranian people and officials.

Ghalibaf also highlighted the enduring bonds between Iran and Iraq, noting that after overcoming the difficult period of Saddam's regime, the two nations have supported each other as brothers, fighting and sacrificing together to preserve their national sovereignty.

Regarding the management of the Strait of Hormuz, Ghalibaf mentioned that important issues have been resolved in the recent memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the United States. However, he asserted that, according to international law, the administration of the Strait of Hormuz should be handled by the two coastal states of Iran and Oman.

For his part, al-Halbousi emphasized the deep solidarity between the two nations, calling for the continuation of parliamentary cooperation between Iran and Iraq.
