Ankara: Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has informed his Turkish counterpart, Hakan Fidan, that recent provocations by terrorists in Syria align with the objectives of the Zionist regime of Israel. Araghchi emphasized the necessity for increased cooperation and synergy between Iran, Turkiye, and other regional countries to maintain stability and security in the region. According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Araghchi highlighted the responsibility of regional countries to address the needs of people displaced due to the Israeli regime's conflicts in Gaza and Lebanon, as conditions in those regions are becoming more complicated with the onset of winter. He praised the state of relations between Iran and Turkey and expressed hope for a meeting of their high-level intergovernmental committee early next year. Fidan, in response, conveyed Turkey's determination to expand relations with Iran, particularly concerning security issues. He also expressed concerns about the growing insecurity in Syria and i ts implications for the region. Prior to this meeting, Araghchi mentioned to Iranian journalists in Ankara that there were common concerns needing attention, indicating the necessity of addressing these issues for regional stability. Araghchi also reflected on the historical discussions between Iranian and Turkish officials, pointing out that while there is consensus in many areas, some differences remain. He stressed the importance of dialogue to prevent Syria or the region from becoming a hub for terrorists again. On the previous day, Araghchi met with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Damascus, reiterating Tehran's full support for Syria in combating terrorism and backing the Syrian government, people, and army. Iran, Turkiye, and Russia, as guarantor countries of the Astana process on Syria, continue their efforts to resolve disputes and bring an end to the unrest in the Arab country. The 22nd meeting of the Astana process on Syria took place on November 11-12, 2024, following its inception in Februa ry 2017.
