The United Nations confirmed that "the two-state solution cannot be rejected by a vote" in response to a decision passed by the Knesset yesterday, Thursday, rejecting the establishment of a Palestinian state. The draft resolution stated: "The Knesset strongly opposes the establishment of a Palestinian state west of the Jordan," considering that "the establishment of a Palestinian state in the heart of the land of Israel will pose an existential threat to the State of Israel and its citizens, and will perpetuate the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and destabilize the region." On February 21, the Israeli Knesset voted by an overwhelming majorit y in favor of the government's decision to reject unilateral recognition of the Palestinian state, in response to several countries announcing their official recognition of the State of Palestine, which would allow for the establishment of full diplomatic relations with it. The latest draft resolution was submitted by MK Ze'ev Elkin of the Official Right Bloc, and the proposal was supported by the opposition and the coalition. Commenting on the Knesset plenum's adoption of the resolution, the head of the Official Right Party, Gideon Sa'ar, said that the resolution represents an Israeli message to the international community that "international pressure aimed at imposing a Palestinian state on Israel will be of no use." For his part, Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich said: 'By an overwhelming majority of 68 votes to 9, the Knesset voted on a resolution that completely rules out the establishment of an (Arab terrorist) state in the Land of Israel, neither now nor in the future, neither unilaterally n or as part of an agreement.
