The Culinary Arts Commission announced yesterday that it has included three types of Saudi bread in the "Breads of the Creative Cities Initiative," highlighting the rich cultural and culinary heritage of Saudi Arabia. These breads represent three Saudi cities listed in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network: Al-Ahsa, a creative city of crafts and folk art; Buraidah, a creative city of gastronomy; and Taif, a creative city of literature. The included breads are Al-Ahsa's Al-Khubz Al-Ahmar (red bread), made with dates and distinctive spices; Buraidah's Al-Kleija, a traditional sweet that reflects the region's heritage; and Taif's Al-Mallah Bread, one of the oldest breads in Saudi Arabia. Each bread was selected based on specific criteria, including the use of local flour and the culturally significant role these breads play in the heritage of their respective communities.
