Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is scheduled to participate in the 162nd regular session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the level of foreign ministers at the League's headquarters in Cairo tomorrow, Tuesday. Fidan will deliver a speech at the meeting, according to sources in the Turkish Foreign Ministry, on the developments in the situation in the Palestinian territories, the massacres committed in Gaza and the occupied West Bank, as well as Turkey's role in alleviating the human suffering in the Strip and the catastrophic humanitarian situation. During his speech, he will touch on the contributions of Turkish foreign policy in the region and its efforts to establish stability, peace and prosperity, and the development and diversity of Turkey's relations with Arab countries in recent years. He will also discuss the search for solutions to current problems in the region and mutual benefit, enhancing new opportunities in the context of future cooperation, developing institutional relati ons with the League of Arab States and increasing coordination on the agenda. The meeting will discuss a number of issues, most notably the Palestinian cause, following up on the political developments of the issue, Israeli violations in the occupied city of al-Quds, Israel's theft of water in the occupied Arab territories and the occupied Syrian Golan Heights, in addition to the crisis in Yemen, Somaliland, the situation in Libya, and other issues. The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell, will also deliver a speech at the meeting on mediation efforts to stop the war, as well as the role of the European Union in alleviating the humanitarian suffering in the Strip and the catastrophic humanitarian situation. The past years have witnessed a remarkable development in Arab-Turkish relations, rising since 2003, and in 2010 the League of Arab States was represented in Ankara at the ambassadorial level. The two parties also expressed their aspiration to further enhance con sultations on regional issues, as well as encourage more dialogue and cooperation between Turkey and the League of Arab States. Turkey had previously joined a lawsuit filed by South Africa against Israel at the International Court of Justice, in which it presented evidence of Israel's violation of its obligations under the UN Charter and its involvement in 'committing acts of genocide against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.
