Turkish Foreign Minister Engages in Strategic Talks with Arab League in El-Alamein

El-alamein: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan convened with Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy in Egypt's coastal city of El-Alamein, as confirmed by Turkish diplomatic sources. The meeting marks an integral part of Fidan's two-day diplomatic visit to Egypt, aiming to strengthen bilateral ties and strategic collaborations between the involved nations.

According to TRTworld.com, Fidan also engaged in discussions with Major General Hassan Mahmoud Rashad, head of Egypt's General Intelligence Service. His itinerary includes a scheduled meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and other senior Egyptian officials. The meetings will focus on enhancing bilateral relations, reviewing agreements under negotiation, and promoting mutual investments to boost the bilateral trade volume to $15 billion.

The Turkish foreign minister aims to advance cooperation in key sectors such as hydrocarbons, electricity grid integration, energy infrastructure, and mining. Discussions will also cover military and defense industry collaborations, with an emphasis on addressing regional issues through dialogue and diplomacy, underscoring shared regional ownership and responsibility.

Fidan's visit will feature the second meeting of the Trkiye-Egypt Joint Planning Group, co-chaired by Fidan and Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty. This meeting will evaluate the outcomes of the previous High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council held in Cairo and prepare for the next session in Trkiye scheduled for 2028.

Key regional topics on the agenda include the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, Gaza, Syria, Libya, and the Eastern Mediterranean. Fidan is expected to express support for diplomatic efforts to restore the ceasefire between the US and Iran and to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Additionally, he will emphasize the need for an immediate cessation of hostilities in Gaza, adherence to the ceasefire, and the continued delivery of humanitarian aid.

The Turkish minister will discuss strategies to implement the Gaza Peace Plan's second phase and address Israel's actions in Palestine, Lebanon, and Syria. Fidan will also advocate for continued efforts to secure Libya's stability and security while respecting its territorial integrity and political unity. Furthermore, he will reaffirm Trkiye's support for Sudan's sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.
