New York: United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has expressed shock over the increasing civilian casualties resulting from Israel's latest airstrikes on Gaza. The attacks have led to a significant number of civilian deaths, sparking international concern.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Guterres's deputy spokesperson Farhan Haq, emphasized the urgent necessity for maintaining the ceasefire agreement and ensuring the continuation of humanitarian aid to Gaza. The recent Israeli offensive, coordinated with the United States, has targeted residential areas, schools, and shelters for displaced individuals.
The White House has confirmed that Israel consulted with President Donald Trump before initiating the offensive. The strikes have reportedly resulted in the deaths of at least 412 individuals, including women and children, as reported by the Palestinian Ministry of Health. The death toll is expected to rise, and over 500 people have sustained injuries, overwhelming the already strained medical facilities in Gaza.
Guterres has made a strong appeal for the ceasefire to be respected, for unhindered humanitarian assistance to be reestablished, and for the unconditional release of remaining hostages.
