U.S.-European Decision to Ban Al-Aqsa TV Sparks Outcry from Hamas

Gaza: The Palestinian resistance movement, Hamas, has condemned a joint decision by the United States and Europe to take its television channel, Al-Aqsa TV, off the air, stating that the move is a deliberate attempt to stifle the voice of the Palestinian nation.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Al-Aqsa TV, which has been operated by Hamas in Gaza since 2006, announced that it has been forced to cease broadcasting on all international satellite channels following the decision. Hamas issued a statement, relayed by the Palestinian Sama news agency, labeling the decision as a direct attack on independent Palestinian media outlets that aim to highlight the suffering of the Palestinian nation and the crimes committed by occupiers globally.

The movement further asserted that the joint American-European measure is part of a broader effort to silence platforms that expose the 'true nature of the organized terrorism of the Zionists.' The ban on Al-Aqsa TV is seen as part of a targeted policy aimed at censoring the Palestinian narrative and perpetuates attacks on journalists covering developments in Gaza.

Another Palestinian resistance movement, the Islamic Jihad, also condemned the ban, arguing that it violates the legitimate right of the Palestinian people to have their voices heard globally. The Islamic Jihad characterized the move as a new blockade intended to silence the Palestinian nation and prevent the dissemination of their suffering to the international community.

The statement from the Islamic Jihad also claimed that the ban is an attempt to cover up Israeli crimes and the regime's actions against Palestinians. The recent ban on Al-Aqsa TV is consistent with earlier measures by the Israeli regime since its incursion into Gaza on October 7, 2023, which included shutting down media outlets and targeting journalists.

On Friday, Palestinian journalist Alaa Hashim died from injuries sustained in an Israeli attack in Gaza City, as reported by Sama news agency. The report did not specify the date of the attack. Furthermore, at least 206 Palestinian journalists have been killed in Israel's conflict with Gaza since October 2023, according to Al Jazeera TV network.
