Jeddah: Ukraine has agreed to an immediate 30-day ceasefire following negotiations with American officials in Saudi Arabia. The United States will lift its pause on intelligence sharing and resume security assistance to Ukraine after Kyiv's delegates accepted the Trump administration's proposal for the interim ceasefire with Russia.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, a joint statement released after the meetings in Jeddah expressed Ukraine's readiness to embrace the U.S. proposal for an immediate, interim 30-day ceasefire. The agreement includes the potential for extension by mutual agreement. The statement emphasized that U.S. communication with Russia will highlight the necessity of Russian reciprocity to achieve peace.

Furthermore, both parties have agreed to expedite a rare minerals deal to boost Ukraine's economy and ensure its long-term security. This development comes as Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky seeks support in Saudi Arabia following a previous dispute with U.S. President Donald Trump during a meeting in the U.S.

Saudi Arabia has positioned itself as a mediator in the Ukraine-Russia conflict by facilitating prisoner exchanges and hosting peace talks between Washington and Moscow. This U.S.-Ukraine meeting marks the first formal session since tensions between the White House and Kyiv escalated.

The Ukrainian delegation, without Zelensky, met with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Adviser Mike Waltz. Both officials had previously engaged in direct talks with Russia. Prior to the meeting, Rubio stated that the U.S. aimed to understand Kyiv's position better and explore possible concessions, noting that the U.S. was in a 'listening mode.'

While many Western allies of Ukraine have supported Kyiv's stance, the Trump administration has not yet committed to concrete actions. According to the Institute for the Study of War, Russia currently controls about 99% of the Luhansk region, 70% of the Donetsk region, and approximately 75% of both the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions.
