Tehran: Iran's ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, has formally dismissed US allegations regarding Iran's involvement in the security situation in Yemen. In a letter addressed to the UN secretary-general and the president of the UN Security Council, Iravani rejected claims that Iran has been transferring weapons to Yemen, accusing the United States of trying to divert attention from its own actions in the region.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the letter from the Iranian envoy highlighted several points countering the US accusations. Iravani stated that the assertions of Iran's involvement in Yemen lack credible evidence and are part of a pattern of disinformation by the US. He emphasized that the United States is primarily responsible for undermining peace and security in Yemen, blaming its actions for derailing the April 2022 ceasefire agreement and hindering the UN-facilitated political process.

The letter also addressed claims regarding Ansarallah, stating that the group operates independently and is not directed by Iran. Iravani reiterated Iran's support for a peaceful, Yemeni-led political process under the UN's guidance, asserting that Iran respects Yemen's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Furthermore, the envoy criticized the US for its non-compliance with the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, citing numerous violations that have jeopardized regional stability. He accused the US of being the aggressor, pointing to unprovoked wars and military actions against Iran, which he claimed violate international laws and threaten global peace.

Iravani concluded by asserting that the US lacks the legal, political, or moral authority to accuse Iran or any other nation, given its own actions in the region. The letter called for a focus on achieving a comprehensive and lasting peace through diplomatic efforts.
