UNESCO Hailed for Adding Allameh Tabataba’i in Its 2026-2027 Celebration List

Tabriz: Ahmad Motahari-Asl, the Friday prayer leader of Tabriz and the representative of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution in East Azerbaijan Province, has commended the inclusion of the name of Allameh Tabataba’i in UNESCO’s commemorative programs for the 2026-2027 period. Addressing the provincial General Culture Council on Sunday, Motahari-Asl mentioned that Tabataba’i, a prominent figure in the fields of mysticism and philosophy, aligns with promoting and honoring enduring figures.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Tabataba’i dedicated a major part of his life to worship, research, and training influential students in the Islamic world. Motahari-Asl emphasized that UNESCO’s recognition should lead to the introduction and recognition of the rich Iranian-Islamic culture and civilization. He urged media, especially domestic broadcasters, to produce programs and documentaries on Tabataba’i and his works.

Motahari-Asl also highlighted the national event ‘Iran Jan’, which has brought together the country’s media, providing a new opportunity to showcase provincial potentials and encourage interaction between national and provincial planners.

Earlier this month, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) during its 43rd session of the General Conference in Samarkand included Allameh Tabataba’i and Bayazid Bastami, the two prominent Iranian figures, among its commemorative programs. The two names were proposed by the National Commission of Iran and subsequently approved by the General Conference of UNESCO.
