Vienna: Iran's permanent mission to the United Nations and other international organizations in Vienna has stated that a renewed attempt by the United States and the European trio-Germany, Britain, and France-to bring Iran's nuclear issue before the UN Security Council is indicative of the "complete failure of the snapback illusion" that these nations have pursued. According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the mission shared this assessment on X, ahead of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors' upcoming September meeting. Iran's nuclear program remains a key topic on the agenda, with reports indicating that the US and the E3 are preparing a resolution. If passed, this resolution would escalate Iran's nuclear dossier to the UN Security Council. This move marks nearly a year since Iran's nuclear case was last referred to the Security Council under the snapback mechanism of the 2015 nuclear agreement. This mechanism, which expired in October 2025, initially aimed to reinstate UN sanc tions against Iran. The Iranian mission in Vienna remarked on Friday, "US and E3 once again intend to submit a resolution against Iran to the IAEA Board of Governors and, as they claim, refer Iran's nuclear issue to the UN Security Council in New York." The mission further noted skepticism about the effectiveness of the snapback mechanism, stating that the new action would not yield any tangible results for the US and E3. "This move is a clear sign of the complete failure of the snapback illusion. Their new desperate action will bring them no benefit either, and they won't gain anything out of it," the mission emphasized, indicating that the latest efforts would not alter the current situation.
