US Strike Claims Two Lives at Shalamcheh Border Crossing

Shalamcheh: Two people have been killed in a US strike on Iran's Shalamcheh border crossing with Iraq, Iran's Mehr News Agency reported, citing an Iranian official. Valiollah Hayati, the deputy governor for security and law enforcement in southwestern Khuzestan province, stated that the area around the passenger terminal at the border crossing was targeted.

According to TRTworld.com, Hayati also noted that a separate US missile strike targeted an area near the city of Andimeshk in Khuzestan. He mentioned that further details regarding this incident would be announced later.

The attack is part of a series of fresh US strikes across southwestern and southern Iran. CENTCOM has indicated that these operations are intended to degrade Iran's ability to threaten civilian mariners and commercial vessels in regional waters.

The US has been conducting a series of strikes across Iran since last week. In response, Tehran has targeted facilities and bases it claims are used by the US military in several countries across the region.

This exchange of fire persists despite a Pakistan-brokered framework agreement signed by the US and Iran in June. The agreement aimed to end the conflict that began in February and to pave the way for a lasting peace deal.
