Tehran: Ali Akbar Velayati, a senior adviser to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution on international affairs, has emphasized that Iraq holds a special place in the diplomatic relations of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Speaking during a meeting with Bafel Talabani, head of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) of Iraq, Velayati stressed the importance of Iran and Iraq avoiding actions that could provoke the ambitions of other nations, particularly those of the American and Zionist regimes.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Velayati underscored the potential for Iran and Iraq, as neighboring nations, to collaboratively overcome challenges. Bafel Talabani reciprocated by expressing the Iraqi nation's friendship and solidarity with Iran, highlighting the enduring ties between the two countries.

Velayati also referenced the historical friendship with the late Jalal Talabani, noting this relationship as a foundational element in the ties between Iran, Iraq, and the Kurdistan Region. He reassured that the enduring neighborliness between Iraq and Iran remains a significant asset in their bilateral relations.
