Caracas: Angelo Giuliano, a Swiss-Italian activist and political analyst, who recently travelled to Venezuela, says the people of the South American country are firmly backing their government against aggression and the war of words launched by the United States.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Giuliano updated the current situation in Venezuela, in the wake of multidimensional pressure of US sanctions and the ever-present threat of targeted stand-off strikes, on the pretext of combating drug cartels. He noted that Venezuelans are enjoying the Christmas holidays, with the environment in the capital Caracas and elsewhere remaining festive and showing little concern for US military threats.

He observed that normal life was visible everywhere except near ministerial buildings and the presidential palace, where heavy security presence makes those areas slightly tense. Giuliano also pointed out the dwindling public support in the United States for any military action against Venezuela, with a significant number of people criticizing President Donald Trump's policies toward the South American country as "illegal and baseless."

The tensions between the US and Venezuela have been escalating since Washington deployed thousands of troops, alongside warships, a nuclear submarine, and fighter jets in the waters off the Venezuelan coast.
