Tehran: Iran's Justice Ministry has announced the repatriation of 159 Iranian prisoners from Iraq following joint efforts with the Judiciary and the Foreign Ministry.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the announcement was made by Deputy Justice Minister for Human Rights and International Affairs Askar Jalalian. He stated, "The Secretariat of the Committee for the Transfer of Convicts at the Ministry of Justice, in cooperation with other relevant bodies, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Judiciary's International Affairs Office, and the Khuzestan Province Justice Department, facilitated the transfer of 159 Iranian prisoners from prisons in Iraq to Iran."

Jalalian further explained that the number of Iranian prisoners held in Iraq has increased recently due to a rise in the number of Iranians traveling to the Arab country. He indicated that failure to comply with Iraq's laws and regulations, as well as the country's strict response to violations, had also contributed to the increase in the number of Iranians being convicted in Iraq.

He emphasized the importance of adhering to the laws of the destination country and respecting its regulations when traveling abroad. Jalalian warned that non-compliance could lead to arrest, lengthy prison sentences, hefty fines, and irreversible consequences for individuals and their families.
