Tehran: Iran's permanent representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva has warned that any assessment of the economic and developmental consequences of the Strait of Hormuz crisis would be incomplete without addressing its root causes, which he attributed directly to US and Israeli military aggression.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, at a high-level meeting of the UNCTAD Trade and Development Board titled 'The Impact of Developments in the Strait of Hormuz on Developing Countries,' Ali Bahreini, Iran's UN envoy, stated, "The current situation is a direct result of the illegal military aggression by the US and the Zionist regime against the Islamic Republic of Iran."

Bahreini highlighted the collaborative efforts by Iran and Oman to facilitate the resumption of maritime traffic through the crucial Strait of Hormuz. He noted that both countries have made extensive efforts to finalize necessary arrangements and are committed to continuing their cooperation in this regard.

Additionally, Bahreini cautioned that the crisis's repercussions could extend through trade, energy, food, and other economic sectors. He urged UNCTAD to consider the cumulative impact of unilateral coercive measures on development and economic resilience, emphasizing the critical need for comprehensive solutions to address the crisis's underlying causes.
