Tehran: The IRGC Navy Command announced that the supertanker *Algaya* exploded south of the Strait of Hormuz after striking naval mines. According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the supertanker *Algaya* (IMO number 9325336) was attempting to pass through a restricted zone when it exploded. The report stated that efforts to contain the fire have been unsuccessful, leaving the entire oil tanker engulfed in flames. The IRGC Navy command emphasized that warnings had been issued about the dangers of this illegal route. They further declared that the Strait of Hormuz is blocked and remains under their intelligent surveillance. Iranian naval authorities have repeatedly cautioned shipping companies against acting on false American assurances about so-called safe corridors. They have stated that vessels entering mined or prohibited areas, or sailing without coordination with the Persian Gulf Strait Authority, risk their crews and cargo.
