Tehran: Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has stated that negotiations between Iran and the United States are currently not taking place, emphasizing that talks cannot resume until Washington ends its violations of commitments and compensates for those breaches. Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event titled 'Muharram and Ashura in Reflection of Foreign Ministry Documents,' Araghchi highlighted that while messages are being exchanged between Iran and the US through intermediaries, the process should not be mistaken for negotiations.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Araghchi mentioned that some intermediary countries are attempting to create conditions conducive to the resumption of negotiations. However, he made it clear that from Iran's perspective, until the US ends its violation of the Islamabad memorandum and compensates for these breaches, the possibility of resuming negotiations does not exist. The memorandum, a 14-point agreement reached on June 18 in Islamabad, Pakistan, aimed to end the war of aggression imposed on Iran by Washington and Tel Aviv, has reportedly been violated numerous times by the United States.

Araghchi also addressed ongoing negotiations between Iran and Oman regarding new maritime arrangements in the Strait of Hormuz. He described the talks as progressing well and nearing completion. Specialists are currently working on relevant maps for the new routes that will replace existing ones through the strategic waterway once an agreement is reached. However, he clarified that the opening of the Strait of Hormuz is contingent on the fulfillment of other conditions, which have been conveyed to the American side through intermediaries.
