Baghdad: Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held separate meetings in Baghdad with Iraqi Prime Minister's Chief of Staff Ihsan al-Awadi and National Security Advisor Qasim al-Aboudi, as part of his official visit to coordinate funeral arrangements for the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution and discuss regional security.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, during the meetings, the two sides exchanged views on strengthening bilateral ties and regional developments. Earlier in the day, Araghchi held a joint press conference with his Iraqi counterpart Fuad Hussein, where he identified one of the key objectives of his visit as 'necessary coordination for the funeral procession of the martyred Leader's holy body in the cities of Baghdad, Kadhimiya, Karbala, and Najaf.'

'Millions of Iraqis have announced their readiness and requested to participate in this funeral,' Araghchi said during the press conference. The Iranian foreign minister also confirmed that arrangements for the funeral ceremonies at Iraq's holy shrines remain a central part of his discussions with Iraqi authorities.

Araghchi's visit to Baghdad comes amid ongoing regional tensions following a June 17 memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States that called for an immediate cessation of military operations. Despite the agreement, intermittent hostilities have continued over the weekend, with both sides exchanging fire.

Earlier on Sunday, Araghchi met with Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi and President Nizar Amedi, as well as his counterpart Fuad Hussein, to discuss bilateral cooperation, border security, Iraq's debt payments to Iran, and measures to prevent anti-Iran groups from operating on Iraqi territory.
