Geneva: Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced that 'good progress' was achieved during the recent indirect talks between Tehran and Washington held in Geneva. These discussions, which took place at the Omani embassy, showed marked improvement compared to the previous session.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the second round of talks concluded on Tuesday, and Araghchi highlighted that the negotiations occurred in a serious and more constructive atmosphere. He mentioned that discussions on technical aspects had commenced a day earlier and noted productive interactions with Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Araghchi revealed that various ideas were proposed and assessed with the aim of drafting a text. A general agreement on guiding principles was reached, and the focus will now shift to discussing these principles as they move forward with drafting the text. He acknowledged that while progress in this round was better than before, the drafting process will be challenging and require detailed work.
The foreign minister mentioned that no specific date has been set for the next round of negotiations. He explained that both sides agreed to work on drafts of a potential agreement and exchange them before determining a date for the third round of talks. Although there is no specific roadmap at this stage, Araghchi expressed optimism about the clarity of the path forward.
Indirect talks between Iran and the United States resumed on February 6 in Muscat, with messages being exchanged through the Omani foreign minister.
