Attacks on Journalists in Gaza Deemed ‘Crime Against Humanity’ by Media Office

Gaza: The Government Media Office in Gaza says Israel is deliberately targeting journalists and aid workers, which is in clear violation of international law and constitutes a blatant crime against humanity.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the office issued a statement on Tuesday, a day after a double Israeli strike killed 20 people, including health workers and six journalists working for international media outlets. The strike hit Nasser Hospital in the city of Khan Younis, southern Gaza.

The statement, carried by Al Jazeera news network, described the two-stage attacks as a criminal tactic banned under international law and claimed they demonstrate the Zionist regime's intention to inflict maximum casualties among civilians and rescue workers.

The statement further emphasized that the attacks on hospitals, rescue workers, and journalists are considered crimes against humanity. Since the outbreak of the Gaza war in October 2023, Israel has been accused of repeatedly striking hospitals and medical centers sheltering displaced Palestinians. Observers describe these actions as a systematic campaign to silence reporting and block the Palestinian narrative from reaching the world.

On Tuesday, Tsvi Yehezkel, chief commentator for Israel's i24 channel, openly endorsed the killing of journalists working in Gaza. During a live broadcast, he alleged that these journalists serve Hamas and argued that such killings 'should have started earlier.'
