Hanoi:In response to recent remarks by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei has criticized the US for distorting historical facts and failing to uphold its commitments.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Baqaei's comments came after Rubio claimed that Iran had missed multiple opportunities for an agreement. Baqaei countered this claim, asserting that the US's repeated breaches of commitments cannot be concealed from the public.

Baqaei highlighted several instances of US actions, including its unilateral withdrawal from the nuclear deal in 2018, undermining diplomatic efforts, and military aggression against Iran during negotiations. He also mentioned the violation of an understanding reached on June 18, attributing regional insecurity and economic repercussions to these actions.

He further emphasized that the US's attempts to shift blame and make inconsistent statements fail to address the demands of American and global public opinion, which seek accountability for the illegal war and associated crimes.
