Tehran: Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei claims that the United States has violated the framework of the Islamabad agreement signed by the two countries, emphasizing that the Islamic Republic will steadfastly safeguard its national interests and sovereignty. According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Baqaei stated that the memorandum of understanding between Iran and the US was designed not on the basis of trust but on a 'commitment-for-commitment' mechanism due to the absence of goodwill from the US. He highlighted that the US had violated Clause 5 of the MoU, which pertains to Iran's responsibility for ensuring the safe passage of vessels through the Strait of Hormuz. Baqaei accused Washington of violating the agreement's framework through unilateral actions and acts of aggression against Iran. He reiterated that the Islamic Republic of Iran is committed to protecting its national interests and exercising its sovereignty. Baqaei's comments follow a fresh round of US military strikes o n Iran's coastal areas earlier in the day. The US military conducted strikes on several coastal bases and civilian sites in Iran's southern Hormozgan province and the city of Mahshahr, actions that Baqaei described as an open violation of the ceasefire.
