New delhi: The spokesperson of the Chinese embassy in India, referring to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi's recent remarks in New Delhi, emphasized that China will continue to play a constructive role in fostering peace in the Middle East.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the comments were made by Yu Jing, who shared on her X account that the Iranian Foreign Minister acknowledged China's positive influence in mending Iran-Saudi Arabia relations. Araghchi expressed appreciation for the countries, particularly China, that have contributed to restoring regional ties, highlighting the importance of the rapprochement between Iran and Saudi Arabia.
The Chinese diplomat further reiterated that China has demonstrated goodwill and that any diplomatic effort supporting dialogue is welcomed by the Islamic Republic of Iran. She underscored that China remains committed to being a constructive partner for peace in the region.
This statement follows China's successful mediation of a normalization agreement between Iran and Saudi Arabia on March 10, 2023. The agreement, known as the Beijing Agreement, ended seven years of diplomatic estrangement between the two nations, underscoring China's growing influence as a diplomatic power broker in the Middle East.
