Efforts Focused on Preventing Danger of War: Administration Spokesperson

Tehran: Administration spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani has stated that all sections of the government are focused on keeping Iran away from the danger of war and countering plans, which under the guise of development, aim to weaken and fragment the country. Speaking at her weekly press briefing in Tehran on Tuesday, Mohajerani stressed that authorities are working to steer the atmosphere toward calm despite social tensions and what she described as unprecedented external threats. She added that governing institutions and elites must take these sensitive conditions into careful consideration.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Mohajerani also addressed the recent protests by university students, affirming the administration's recognition of students' right to protest, describing them as active and aware members of society. However, she emphasized that certain 'red lines,' including respect for religious sanctities and the national flag, must be observed even in times of anger. Mohajerani underlined that the correct path forward lies in constructive dialogue and rationality rather than confrontation. She thanked the ministers of science and health, as well as university presidents and faculty members, for their patience and efforts in facilitating the reopening of universities.

Mohajerani announced the administration's full readiness to engage directly with students on campuses, stating, 'We believe that neither should the pursuit of science be halted nor should the voices of protesters go unheard.' She added that officials would attend university gatherings with openness and patience to listen to concerns and provide answers.

The spokesperson also revealed that a group of sociologists will be officially introduced by the Ministry of Science to examine the root causes of social anger. So far, seven universities have formally taken on responsibility in this regard, while provincial universities are also cooperating in coordination with local authorities, she added. She noted that psychologists are participating alongside sociologists to assess both the social and psychological dimensions of the issue, with the Iranian Sociological Association among the institutions involved in the process.

Mohajerani provided details about the work of a fact-finding committee established to review the January unrest in Iran. The committee, formed under the supervision of the first vice president, holds regular meetings and is pursuing issues such as the release of detainees and the legal follow-up of the events in international forums.

Elsewhere in her remarks, the spokesperson emphasized that the government consistently prefers diplomacy over war. She said both diplomacy and deterrence are key strategies aimed at safeguarding national dignity and securing national interests. While seriously pursuing diplomatic efforts, the government is also strengthening deterrence capabilities through the armed forces who are fully prepared, she said. Recent military drills reflect that readiness, and at the same time, negotiations are being followed with caution and vigilance, she added. Mohajerani also stated that authorities are closely monitoring developments, remain committed to the outcomes of diplomatic processes, and are prepared to use all deterrent tools to prevent any miscalculation. 'In sum, we are fully prepared for both paths,' she said.
