Environmental Destruction Threatens Future Generations, Warns Pezeshkian

Accra:President Masoud Pezeshkian highlighted the universal impact of environmental destruction, emphasizing that all people, regardless of nationality, share the same planet and are affected by ecosystem damage.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Pezeshkian spoke to reporters following his return from Armenia, where he attended the Summit of the 17th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity. This visit followed a recent trip to Turkmenistan, where issues like the depletion of the Caspian Sea, water pollution, and biodiversity loss were discussed.

Pezeshkian stressed that humanity is merely a guest on Earth, and failure to preserve it for future generations will lead to significant challenges. He underlined the importance of every living creature in maintaining the life cycle and warned that disrupting this cycle poses a threat to human existence.

During the meetings in Armenia, which included the participation of the UN Secretary-General, discussions focused on biodiversity and strategies to prevent further environmental destruction. Pezeshkian criticized wars and conflicts for their detrimental effects on ecosystems, stating that these are among the primary causes of environmental degradation.

He pointed out the contradiction between claims of civilization and human rights and the actions that harm the environment, noting that wars have severely damaged forests, air, land, and soil. Pezeshkian called for a global effort to raise awareness about the importance of protecting the environment, reminding everyone that environmental destruction transcends borders and affects individuals worldwide.
