Beirut:Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister, Saeed Khatibzadeh, emphasized that ending hostilities on all fronts is crucial for achieving peace in the region. He warned that ongoing conflicts in any part of the area would perpetuate war throughout the region.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Khatibzadeh, during an interview with Lebanon's Al Mayadeen television network, reiterated Iran's commitment to halting the Israeli war on Lebanon. This objective was secured in the Islamabad memorandum of understanding signed by Iran and the United States in June.
Khatibzadeh's visit to Beirut involved discussions with Lebanese officials, including Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, aiming to bridge gaps between Iran and the US concerning Lebanon. He highlighted that Israel must cease its military actions in Lebanon and the Levant, noting the interconnectedness of these regions' developments.
He criticized the United States and Israel for violating the Islamabad agreement through their military actions against Iran and Lebanon. He also mentioned that efforts by the US to broker a ceasefire and halt Israel's conflict with Lebanon had stalled, placing responsibility on Washington to restrain its ally.
Addressing the US-imposed war on Iran, Khatibzadeh labeled it as illegal under international law and asserted that Iran's defense capabilities remained intact. He confirmed Iran's readiness to resolve issues with the International Atomic Energy Agency and the US regarding its nuclear activities, citing numerous IAEA reports affirming Iran's compliance.
Additionally, Khatibzadeh proposed reopening the Strait of Hormuz within a week, underscoring Tehran's preference for peace but its readiness to resist any forced conflict.
He also described Hezbollah as a political entity established to end Israeli occupation and highlighted Iran's alliances based on common beliefs and principles.
