Tehran: An Iranian envoy to the United Nations has criticized the recent UN Security Council meeting discussing Iran's nuclear program, labeling it as a misuse of the Council's procedures. He emphasized that the accusations against Iran's nuclear activities are politically motivated rather than based on technical grounds.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the Iranian envoy, Darzi, addressed his concerns in a letter to France's permanent representative, who currently holds the Security Council presidency. In his letter, Darzi asserted that the meeting concerning the "1737 Committee's activity" represents a clear abuse of the Council's authority. He highlighted that Iran's stance has been consistent and formally communicated to the UN Secretary-General and the Council president.

Darzi further elaborated that UN Security Council Resolution 2231 expired on October 18, 2025. As a result, all provisions and restrictions related to Iran's nuclear program were permanently terminated from that date. He pointed out that the Security Council had concluded its consideration of the Iranian nuclear issue, and the "Non-proliferation" agenda item was removed. He also noted that attempts to re-trigger sanctions through the 'snapback' mechanism by the E3 countries were invalid due to their non-compliance with obligations under the JCPOA and Resolution 2231.

The letter also addressed the root causes of the current tensions, attributing them to unlawful actions by the United States and Israel against Iran's safeguarded nuclear facilities. Darzi accused these nations of conducting attacks against Iran's civilian infrastructure, including its nuclear facilities, which he stated are violations of international law and UN resolutions. He urged that nuclear facilities under international safeguards should not be targeted.

Furthermore, Darzi criticized the IAEA Board of Governors' recent resolution, adopted without consensus, as politically driven and biased. He called for the IAEA to maintain its objectivity and independence, highlighting that Iran has been subject to extensive monitoring without any reported diversion of nuclear material.

The letter concluded by urging the Security Council to adhere strictly to the UN Charter and international law, rejecting any attempts to politicize Council procedures. Darzi requested that his letter be circulated as an official document of the Security Council.
