Envoy: Pakistan Initiatives Pave Way for Establishing Permanent Peace

Islamabad: Iran's ambassador to Pakistan has expressed that diplomatic efforts spearheaded by Pakistan are crucial in laying the groundwork for lasting peace in the region and globally. The statement comes amidst ongoing complex geopolitical tensions.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Reza Amiri-Moghadam, Iran's ambassador, emphasized the importance of diplomacy, stating that the collective efforts led by Pakistan are vital for achieving comprehensive and united solutions. He highlighted Iran's commitment to robust defense and resistance while acknowledging the recent ceasefire in Lebanon and the reopening of the previously closed Straits of Hormuz as significant steps towards peace.

Amiri-Moghadam stressed the need for building "Reliable Trust, Goodwill, avoiding redundancy in action and words, RESPECT, 'Practical Will to Action' and particularly Synergy" among regional countries. He believes these elements are crucial to bridging existing gaps and achieving substantial goals in peace and security.

The ambassador also underscored the role of intellectuals, politicians, scholars, and media in fostering convergence and closing the current divides. These groups, he noted, could play a pivotal part in supporting efforts towards regional stability.

Efforts to ease hostilities saw a two-week ceasefire established on April 8, which facilitated mediated negotiations in Islamabad. Iran proposed a ten-point plan during these discussions, addressing issues such as the withdrawal of US troops, lifting of sanctions, and sovereignty over the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

Subsequent talks between Tehran and Washington took place on April 11 in Islamabad. While no agreement was reached, discussions continue. The Iranian delegation was led by Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, speaker of the Iranian Parliament, while the American delegation was headed by Vice President JD Vance.
