Kiev: During a joint visit to Kiev, European leaders issued a stern warning to Russian President Vladimir Putin, calling on him to agree to an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in Ukraine by Monday or face intensified sanctions and increased military support for Ukraine.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the prime ministers and presidents of Britain, France, Germany, and Poland stood alongside Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to deliver the message. The leaders emphasized the importance of a ceasefire to halt the ongoing conflict and prevent further escalation.
Before making their public statement, the European leaders coordinated their strategy through a phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump, ensuring a unified stance from Western powers. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, speaking at a joint press conference, stated, 'All of us here, together with the U.S., are calling Putin out. If he's serious about peace, then he has a chance to show it now.'
The visit to Kiev saw Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz arriving together on the same train, symbolizing their collective resolve. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk traveled separately, arriving on a different train, yet stood in solidarity with his counterparts.
This diplomatic effort underscores the urgency felt by European leaders to resolve the situation in Ukraine and prevent further deterioration of regional stability. The leaders have made it clear that failure to comply with their demands will lead to increased consequences for Russia, both economically and militarily.
